On January 10, 1976 at 12:20pm Springfield-Decatur Area Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. was chartered by eighteen visionary women.

Among the charter members were recent college graduates, sorors who had been inactive for a number of years, as well as sorors who had been active in other chapters in the area. The Chapter remains dedicated to Delta’s core values of Sisterhood, Scholarship and Service. We serve the Springfield and Decatur areas in numerous capacities, most importantly, through public service and social action.

The Springfield Decatur Area Alumnae Chapter is located in the central part of Illinois. The chapter has been at the epicenter representing community commitment and civic responsibility in area. Entities such as state government, private businesses, and community organizations have come to rely on the contributions of the chapter. Under the Sorority’s National Five-Point Program Thrust, Springfield-Decatur Area Alumnae Chapter has implemented various programs designed to address community needs and concerns by focusing on programs, projects and events that are in line with our Five-Point Programmatic Thrust -Economic Development, Educational Development, International Awareness and Involvement, Physical and Mental Health, Political Awareness and Involvement. We are committed to upholding the legacy of the 22 Founders and our Charter members of ‘Sisterhood, Scholarship and Service.

Delta Sigma Theta Sorority is broken up into 7 regions to serve it’s community. Springfield- Decature Area Alumnae Chapter is a part of the Midwest Region.
