Springfield Decatur Area Alumnae Key Programs:

Economic DevelopmentNational economic trends, such as unstable employment, the threat to Social Security as we know it, and the widening gap between wealth and poverty are the bases for the development of Financial Fortitude, the Economic Development Program Initiative of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. Financial Fortitude is a process that will help program participants to set and define goals, develop a plan to achieve them, and to put the plan into action. The process serves as a blueprint to address all aspects of personal finances.

Financial Planning Seminars

The Springfield Decatur Area Alumnae Chapter (SDAAC) is committed to bringing an awareness and basic knowledge about the essentials of money management to low income communities of Springfield, IL which can begin the journey to financial freedom.  The Chapter has an annual goal of impacting 20 households on the eastside of Springfield which has a preponderance of low income households.  To accomplish this goal the Chapter provides a series of 8 Financial Seminars.

To offer the Financial Seminars which provide financial awareness and information to the community, the Chapter partners with local churches and financial institutions which are located in the community and have been a champions of urban renewal, and financial independence.

Springfield Decatur Area Alumnae Key ProgramsPreKwanzaa Holiday Expo is the key financial fortitude program for the Springfield-Decatur community, used to promote African American owned business and community organizations.

For 20 years, the Chapter has offered this program to the community.  While it generates funds to support the Chapter’s educational initiatives, its primary purpose is to showcase minority businesses. The Pre-Kwanzaa Holiday Expo is dedicated to the fourth Kwanzaa principle, UJAMAA, which encourages the building and maintaining of businesses and the supporting of each other to obtain the optimal profit. The Pre-Kwanzaa Holiday Expo provides an opportunity for minority businesses owners to display, advertise and sell their goods and services.  The entire community is invited to this event to holiday shop with these minority vendors.
