International Awareness and InvolvementSpringfield Decatur Area Alumnae Chapter participates in Operation Christmas Child through Samaritan’s Purse to provide for the collection and delivery of more than 124 million gift-filled shoe boxes to children during the Christmas in more than 150 countries and territories. The Chapter provides over a hundred shoe boxes annually to this project.

The Chapter contributes annually to World Vision, an advocacy program for children living in poverty around the world. This contribution supports our adopted child, Endinako Njengele in Kenya.  The members write to her and the organization keeps us updated on her progress.  The Chapter has supported this child for 3 years.

To raise funds to support the Chapter’s International Awareness and Involvement projects, members work at the Illinois State Fair Gates annually in August.

International Awareness and Involvement2World AIDS Day is held on December 1st each year and is an opportunity for people worldwide to unite in the fight against HIV, show their support for people living with HIV and to commemorate people who have died. World AIDS Day was the first ever global health day, the first one was held in 1988.

Springfield-Decatur Area Alumnae Chapter observes World AIDS Day with a focus on youth.  In 2014, the Chapter had its first ‘AIDS Awareness and Information Day for Youth Grades 8-12)’.  This is an event where students come together to get information on the disease and to share individual spoken word, songs, dance and stories written about the tragedy of AIDS.  This is now an annual event for World AIDS Day
